Meet The Coaches

Assistant Coach Sassaman

Coach Scott Sassaman is a long time contributor to the athletic program at Elkhart Central High School.  He is a Purdue graduate (’98) that is also an Elkhart Central graduate (’93).  He has also taught in Elkhart for the better part of 12 years (at both high schools and the career center).   Coach Sassaman (or often referred to as Coach Sass) has been an Blue Blazer assistant boys basketball coach (1998-2002 and 2003-2008) and a head coach of the Lady Blazer Golf program from 2005-2007.  As far as the track program at Elkhart Central, this is his second stint coaching.  He was the jumps coach from 2004-2007 for the Lady Blazer’s.  While coaching the Lady Blazer’s he coached two regional qualifiers in the long jump and one qualifier in the high jump.  At the same time, he coached one state finalist (9th) in the long jump.

Coach Sassaman also enjoys spending time with his family.  He has two daughters, Taelyr (3) and Izabela (1).  He has been married for nearly ten years to Amy (Sarafin) of Valparaiso. 

Coach Sassaman’s Outlook on the 2009-2010 season:  “I am looking forward to getting back on the track and coaching jumps.  It will be an interesting challenge to balance the girls and boys.  We have some talented and coachable kids that should be a lot of fun to coach.  More than anything, I am expecting to see improvement across the board, when it comes to the jumpers.”
