Head Coach: Crystal Davis (Cohen)
2008 marks the first year for Coach Davis as Head Coach for the Blue Blazers. This is her 6th season with Elkhart Central Girls Track. Davis’ expertise is in the area of sprints, including relays and hurdles.
Formerly Coach Cohen, as some of the girls still call her, is very excited to work with the Blazers because it is her old running ground. Davis graduated from Central in 1997. She was a top runner in the area and ventured to state all 4 years, medaling in several events. Davis followed her running career to Purdue University then ventured to Indiana University to run for another Central Grad, Ed Beathea. Beathea became a coach and a mentor for Davis taking her in as an assistant for the Hoosiers. Davis then was able to receive coaching experience with the best in the nation and all Americans. While receiving her degree in kinesiology Davis also coached middle school track and Indiana Track Club in Bloomington. Upon graduating from IU, Davis decided to travel back to Elkhart to pursue teaching and coaching.
Coach Davis comments on the upcoming season. “The 2008 team has big shoes to fill with our past few years being very successful. This year’s team is a very young team and a re-building year for our program. We only have 4 seniors. My staff is ready for the challenge and we look forward to working with the younger talent. Younger talent often brings surprises to the season and we are excited to see what happens.”
Coach Davis loves to coach Track but spends the majority of her day taking care of her one year old Hallie Mae and spending as much time with as possible with her husband Jonathan. Davis is now a stay at home mom and running a successful business from home earning income to achieve the goal of being able to stay home to raise a family.
